KUA

The fruit of the encounter between the raw beauty of an oco and the creative imagination of an artist, Kua transcends the senses and invites a deep connection with nature and harmony.
In June 2020, during a visit to the grounds of Tora Brasil, a company of lumberjacks, carpenters and designers north of São Paulo, I was struck by the magnificence of an oco, a hollow tree trunk of striking beauty. It was at this moment that the idea for Kua was born, transforming this natural revelation into a captivating work of art.
Kua, over five meters long, is an oco, a silent witness to time and nature. Its outer surface, burned using the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban technique, gives it a charcoal, mysterious texture, contrasting elegantly with the soft light emanating from its interior. Kua is not just a sculpture, it’s a multi-sensory experience born of a fruitful artistic collaboration.
KUA BY DELPHINE ARAXI

OM Studio Lighting illuminated the interior of the oco with a rainbow of lights, creating a magical, ever-changing atmosphere. Renowned Brazilian perfumer Fatima Farkas created the perfume “oulala”, a unique fragrance that takes the public on an enchanting olfactory journey.

A soundscape of the Amazon rainforest completes the immersion, inviting a deep connection with nature. Inspired by the ancient Chinese concept of Kua, used in Taoism, Yi Jing and Feng shui, the work celebrates the harmony between the five elements: fire, earth, metal, water and wood. Each element is represented by specific colors, materials and shapes, creating a balanced and soothing whole. Kua’s aim is to reconnect the public with nature and the harmony that governs it, fostering a sense of well-being and serenity. More than a simple sculpture, Kua is an invitation to contemplation and reflection. It invites us to observe the raw beauty of nature, to appreciate the delicate balance of the elements and to reconnect with our essence. Kua is a hymn to harmony, a celebration of nature and a reminder of our place within it.
